On Saturday, January 3rd, Team 75 held the FIRST Robotic Competition International Kick-Off at their off-site facility. The broadcast began at 10:30 am, and the game for the 2015 season was released to our team and other high-school teams around the world. Kick-Off marks the beginning of a build season of 6 weeks and 3 days, during which teams will have to design and build their robots to compete in Recycle Rush, the game for 2015. Recycle Rush is a recycling-themed game played by two Alliances of three robots each. Robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposing of pool noodles, representing litter. The team was very excited for the game as well as a special guest, Sgt. Brendan Marrocco. Sergeant Brendan Marrocco is a US soldier who was injured while serving his country overseas. He is both a quadriplegic and the first person to receive a bilateral arm transplant at Johns Hopkins. Team 75 has continued to support Brendan through his recovery and Kick Off was an opportunity for the team as a whole to meet Brendan and his family, and it was a very exciting moment. Soon after, the technical side of Team 75 began working hard to design and build a robot that will prove competitive at competition. The business side of Team 75 is currently preparing for the Chairman’s submission, which is focused around the team’s community outreach initiatives.
