Technology Innovation Week

Technology Innovation Week, TIW, is a law, N.J.S.A. 36:2-147, our team worked with NJ State Legislature to pass in 2010. It is recognized during the first week of March. It encourages teachers across New Jersey schools to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) into their cirriculum. TIW spreads the recognition and inspiration of science and technology to students.
Since 2006, with our assistance, TIW has been an annually celebrated event coinciding with the New Jersey FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) regional, now, the FIRST MAR (Mid-Atlantic Regional) district event. It encourages school faculty members to take their classes to visit FRC competitions.
With greater support from the New Jersey State Legislature, TIW will become an instrumental force in increasing the recognition of science and technology. Through other organizations such as the New Jersey Educational Association as well as other FIRST FRC teams, Team 75 is seeking to expand TIW across New Jersey, and eventually the entire nation.
Science Fair
In 2012, we partnered with the Hillsborough Library to host a district-wide Science Fair for 5-8th graders during TIW. Students were required to create a poster or presentation that was judged by our district supervisors and teachers. Project were assessed for creativity, presentation skills, and overall execution. This year, the 2013 season, Team 75 is hosting another science fair for all students in 5th-12th grade in the entire Somerset County.
Assemblies:
For the past three years, we have been holding assemblies and trivia contests in all of our district schools to promote interest in STEM fields. Students are introduced to science experiments such as volcanoes, and often have the oppotunity to design their own robots.
